- What is the distance from Nairobi to Nanyuki town?
If you are travelling from Jommo Kenyatta International Airport (Nairobi) to Nanyuki, its a distance of 202 KM (or 125 Miles). This is almost the same distance if you travel from Nairobi town centre to Nanyuki - though there's about a 2km difference
- How long does it take to travel from Nairobi to Nanyuki?
This depends on some factors. First, if you decide to take a Matatu (the 14 seater public transport shuttle), you will spend a minimum of 4 hours on the road - this is worse if there is heavy traffic, especially during weekends and public holidays. The shuttles have speed limiters and can not do more than 80 km/h (or 50mph). If you decide to hire a taxi from Nairobi to Nanyuki, this usually takes a shorter time; ususally about 3 hours
- Can I take a flight from Nairobi to Nanyuki?
Yes, there is a small airstrip in Nanyuki. If you intend to take an air-plane from Nairobi to Nanyuki, this obviously takes a shorter time, but its much more expensive than the matatu and taxi
- Whats the cost of hiring a taxi from Nairobi to Nanyuki?
For the taxi, there is no fixed price. Prices range from Sh 7,000 ($70) if its a small car to Sh 15,000 ($150) if its a bigger 4X4 car
- Whats the cost of a Matatu from Nairobi to Nanyuki?
If you are travelling from the airport in Nairobi, you won't get a matatu - actually Matatus are not allowed in to the airport. So, the only option is to take Uber, or any other taxi to the Matatu stage in downtown Nairobi and board one form there. The bus fare from Nairobi to Nanyuki is about Sh 500 ($5) This discussion on Trip Advisor might be of help. There is also another discussion in the same website where they talk about travelling alone and safety
I have two cars and my charges are very reasonable (from Nairobi to Nanyuki or vise versa). One is a small car, which I use if you are alone and you don't have a lot of luggage. For this, I charge Sh 7,000 ($70). The other is a bigger 4X4 SUV which is perfect for one to three passengers who have heavy luggage. Its also good if your destination is located in a remote area with bad roads. For this I charge Sh 14,000 ($140)
Alternatively, you can hire any of the two cars if you want to travel to other destinations. You pay Sh 4,000 ($40) for the small car and Sh 8,000 ($80) for the bigger SUV. This comes with a free driver but no fuel.
Hi Cyrus
